The best method is to use openais as distributed by one of the Linux vendors that distribute openais. If your Linux vendor doesn't distribute openais, it is possible to install openais from the Makefiles:

[sdake@shih trunk]$ make
{bunch of stuff happens}
[sdake@shih trunk]$ make install DESTDIR=/
{bunch of stuff happens}

Now openais should be ready to use.
